Dear Presidents, honoured guests, graduates, ladies and gentlemen
I am delighted to be able to join you here today for this graduation ceremony. My name is Ian Mercer, and I am Head of International Operations at the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
The IET is one of the world’s largest professional societies for professional engineers. We have over 152,000 members in 127 countries, and we recently celebrated our 140thbirthday.
The IET’s has a clear Vision and Mission
Vision
Sharing and advancing knowledge throughout the global science, engineering and technology community to enhance people’s lives around the world.
Mission
To build an open, flexible and global knowledge network supported by individuals, companies and institutions and facilitated by the IET and its members.
Today I am privileged to be here at BUPT to witness your success in graduating from the first IET accredited program in China .
The fact that your program is accredited means that you can explain to your future employers that your education has been internationally benchmarked to a Global standard.You can also be sure that you have completed an engineering education that is suitable for a rewarding career in engineering or in many other careers depending on your choice.
All of you that were student members are now able to become full IET members and in recognition of your achievement those of you that chose to become Full members of the IET will now be able to use the designatory letters MIET after your name. I personally hope that you continue to consider the IET an important part of your professional life and we look forward to supporting you throughout your career.
May I congratulate you all.You should all feel very proud of the achievements we are celebrating today and I am delighted to have been a part of it.
Each year the IET presents an award to one student from the Joint Programme
This award is given in recognition to that persons outstanding performance in engineering practices, especially in the Final Project.
I would now like to ask Miss Gina Wang to join me on stage to announce this years prize winner.

下午好！我是英国工程技术学会（IET）全球运营总监Ian Mercer，今天很高兴能够至此参加贵校的毕业典礼。
英国工程技术学会（IET）作为世界上最大的顶级专业工程师学会和世界著名的公益组织，已经拥有140年的历史，目前在全球127个国家拥有152,000名会员。英国工程技术学会（IET）有着明晰的理念和使命：
理念
IET的理念是建立全球科学工程技术领域中知识的共享和交流，以提高全世界人民的生活水平。
使命
IET的使命是，希望通过IET和IET会员的努力，在个人、企业和学术团体的支持下，构建一个开放的、灵活的、和无限制的全球范围知识网络。IET将成为工程技术人员终身相伴的大家庭。
今天我感到十分荣幸能够来到北京邮电大学，与大家来共同见证IET在中国首批教育认可项目的成功，
事实上来讲，教育项目通过认可意味着你们可以向未来的雇主说你们的教育已经按照国际标准通过了国际化认证。你们也可以确信自己所完成的工程教育适合工程领域具有成就的职业或者其他很多你所选择的职业。
即将毕业的同学们，昨天你们还是学生会员的你们，现在都能成为IET的正式会员。对于那些选择成为IET正式会员的同学们，鉴于对你们过去取得成就的认可，现在将会得到授权使用IET专属信纸，并且在您的名字后面标注上MIET，从此你们将受到国际的尊重和认可。我个人希望你们能够继续将IET作为职业生涯中重要的朋友，同时我们也希望能够在你们的整个职业生涯中提供支持和帮助。
请允许我带表英国工程技术学会（IET）向你们表示祝贺。今天大家共聚一堂，为你们取得的成就而庆祝，这是一件十分值得骄傲和自豪的事情。同时，我也十分荣幸能够参与到如此具有意义的典礼当中。
为了鼓励和表彰那些IET联合项目中在工程实践，尤其是大学学习当中最后项目中表现突出的学生，英国工程技术学会（IET）每年都会选出一名佼佼者为其颁发IET青年学生鼓励奖。
